DESIGN !

MUSEum Front of Book Gallery

Work for: The Muse Vol. 21.1

A callback to my sophomore year, I had the opportunity to work on the FOB Gallery again. There was an odd number of photos, which impacted how I designed the piece. It's more symmetrical and uniform than I'd typically like, but I think it's a clear design nonetheless.

RAINBOW SPRING ROLLS

Work for: The Muse Vol. 20.3

This spread looks simple, but it actually gave me a major headache. I just could not, for the life of me, figure out how to arrange the ingredients! I had a design all set out in my head, and it ended up not working out, so I just got stuck. I learned a lesson through this spread: have backup designs. The have backups for your backups. Things don't always turn out as planned, and when they don't it's important to be able to make the best of it and keep working!

AXIS OF DIVERSITY

Work for: The Muse Vol. 20.2

The Axis of Diversity was a challenge for me, but I'm really glad I took on the project. The writer I worked with was wonderful, and both extremely supportive and talented. I've never created something so graphics heavy before, and I myself do not typically make graphics, so not having as much creative control made it difficult to get everything to go as planned. This was another spread I had to make under a serious time crunch, and while I do not love the result, I'm really happy I could get it done.

SENIOR DUES

Work for: The Muse Vol. 19.4

I'm really grateful I had the opportunity to work on this spread. Not only was it for someone I admire, but it also helped to spread awareness about an issue.
Special thanks to Angelyna Rodriguez for creating the money graphics. We managed to work together under stress and a time limit to create this piece.

CONDITIONING

When I first found out I was doing a sports spread, I was disappointed to say the least. However, in working with one of my editors, I discovered that every story has a chance to be something unique and creative. I really love how it turned out!

THE COLLECTIVE

Work for: The Muse Vol. 19.2

I put my blood, sweat, and tears into these spreads. Cliche, I know, but it's true! The amount of time I spent on this is unreal. I pulled all nighters and got myself in trouble with people just to make this possible. Let's just say... I was dedicated.

FRONT OF BOOK GALLERY

Work for: The Muse Vol. 19.2

Recently (as of the time I'm writing this), The Muse, the publication I work on, has started a new section: the Front of Book Gallery. I am so proud to be one of the 1st people to have the opportunity to work on this part of our wonderful magazine.
The FOBG was a little nerve-wracking to create–I HAD to make sure it looked good. Overall, I think it came out great!

THE CHEER SPREAD

Work for: The Muse Vol. 19.1

Nearly everyone on the 2021-22 Muse staff knows the absolute disaster that was the cheer spread. Every needed element came in late, InDesign kept crashing, this was my 1st spread so I was very inexperienced (and nervous!), inner team conflicts, etc... You name it, it happened. Everything that could've possibly gone wrong went wrong. Yet, here it is, in all of its lackluster glory.

These spreads taught me so much about design. I learned that even though everything might be going wrong, it's important to stick it out until the end and have faith in yourself. I also learned that the staff of the Muse all depends on each other; everything we do is somehow interconnected and affects those around us. Therefore, it's so important to make sure we meet our deadlines and keep up with communication.

The cheer spread(s) may not be my best, but I'm proud of it. She's here, she's done, and she's published. That's really all that matters.
